Thanks to the tube's simple cylindrical shape with a 1:1 aspect ratio, the liquid moves through thousands of channels formed by rings, inside and outside the surface, gradually moving to the bottom. Gas entering the bottom passes through the same pathways created by the packing, leaving ample time for the gas to contact the liquid and react.
