In the production of ethanol and other substances that contain alcohols, special attention is paid to the mechanisms (pumps) that move these liquids. An important criterion for choosing a pump is the material from which it is made.
Pumps for pumping alcohol and alcohol-containing substances should not form a spark during operation, so usually either stainless steel or non-ferrous metals (bronze, brass, etc.) are used for manufacturing. Also, an important selection criterion is the complete set of such pumping units with engines in explosion-proof design( Ex), since usually these pumping units are installed in workshops where there are vapors of flammable substances.
Another important component of the selection of equipment is the reliable and uninterrupted operation of these pumps during their operation. Usually, centrifugal pumping units are used to move alcohol-containing substances. Impeller, peristaltic, and vortex pumps can also be used.
To prevent leaks, special attention should be paid to the seals of pumping units, since ethanol has aggressive properties and can have a negative impact on the material from which the seal itself is made.

Alcohol and alcoholic liquids are organic compounds, various types of which are used both as a finished product and as one of the ingredients in a number of production processes:
- they perform the function of a solvent in the production of paints and varnishes, cosmetic and pharmaceutical products, as well as household chemicals;
- used to clean the surface of glass, metal and other materials;
- participate in the synthesis of polyurethanes, alkyd resins and other polymeric materials;
- they are used as a separate fuel and as an additive for gasoline or diesel fuel;
- they are the main ingredient in the production of alcoholic beverages;
- for the preparation of food additives, flavorings, sugar substitutes;
- the recipe for preparing a large list of names of confectionery, sweets, drinks, ice cream and other sweets provides for the addition of alcohol.
