In the production of ethanol, special attention is paid to the selection of mechanisms (pumps) that move technological media (kneading, wort, mash, distillery waste, etc.). Centrifugal pumps are mainly used. Special attention is paid to the material from which the pumping part of the unit is made.
Alcohol mash, which is formed as a result of biochemical processes of converting sugars into ethanol, contains, in addition to the actual ethanol itself and its impurities (higher alcohols, aldehydes, esters) and organic acids and has a low pH level. Based on the above, the selection of the material from which the pump part of the unit is made must be made taking into account all factors (the temperature of the medium, its density, the presence of suspended particles, etc.) and the conditions in which the pump unit is to be operated.
The same requirements apply to pumps that move the batch, wort, DDGS. It should also be taken into account when selecting the pump unit and the type of building in which it will be operated: especially for fire safety-pump motors in explosion-proof design (Ex version) are required.
