Metal cascade mini ring, CMR ring, cascade ring.

The metal cascade mini ring has characteristics such as thin wall, heat resistance, large free volume, high capacity, low resistance, high separation efficiency and so on. It is especially suitable for distillation columns operating under vacuum to treat heat-sensitive or coking systems in which cleavage or polymerisation processes take place, so the nozzle is widely used in columns in petrochemical industry, chemical fertilizer industry, environmental protection and so on.

Available materials of metal cascade mini ring: carbon steel, stainless steel including 304, 304L, 410, 316, 316L or aluminium alloy.

Advantages of the metal cascade mini ring:

  • Reduced pressure drop: the reduced pressure drop is due to the fact that the cascade mini-ring has the largest opening predominantly in the vapour/liquid flow direction, allowing easy passage and significantly reducing pressure drop.
  • Increased plant capacity: the increased plant capacity is a direct result of the reduced pressure drop provided by cascading mini-rings, as this moves the operating point away from the "critical pressure drop point" at which flooding occurs. This is typically 1-2 inches, v.s./ft or 10-20 mbar/inch. This effect provides additional vapour/liquid treatment and therefore increases plant performance.
  • Improved resistance to fouling: improved resistance to fouling is achieved by the directional arrangement of the rings (largest orifice in the direction of flow), as any solids that are trapped in the compacted bed are more easily flushed through the nozzle matrix.
  • Higher operating efficiency: higher operating efficiency comes from the favourable orientation, which ensures that the majority of the ring surface is vertical rather than horizontal, and this is also beneficial for mass transfer. The high efficiency depends on effectively humidifying as much of the available surface area as possible. The underside of any horizontal surface in a compacted bed or column is naturally protected from liquid run-off and is therefore not fully wetted, such dry surfaces play little or no role in the mass transfer process. The cascade mini-ring significantly reduces this effect and therefore provides a much higher plant efficiency.
