Molecular Sieve 4A

Molecular sieve 4A is a material used to adsorb molecules with a kinetic diameter of less than 4 angstroms. Larger molecules are excluded by the substance. A special feature of the molecular sieve is its porosity and the ability to filter complex mixtures and compositions. In fact, the sieve is an aluminosilicate with a type a crystal structure. Most often, the material is used in industry for cleaning certain products. The substance is gray in color and has a spherical or granular shape.
Using a 4A molecular sieve
As already mentioned, the 4A molecular sieve is most often used in industry to adsorb straight-chain gas, oxygen, nitrogen, or carbohydrate molecules. However, the substance is not suitable for use with aromatics or branched-chain carbohydrates.
The most common application of molecular sieve 4A:
- Drying and removal of CO2 from natural gases, liquefied gases or air.
- Removal of ammonia, carbohydrates and methanol from gas streams in cleaning or transportation systems.
- In the air systems of buses, trucks, or locomotives (specially modified connections are used).
- For drying a variety of goods or products that are not resistant to moisture (the molecular sieve is pre-sorted into special packages).
The molecular sieve is delivered in cardboard boxes. It is important to store it in a closed package from the open air, as the substance absorbs moisture well. The sieve can be subjected to the regeneration process by heating to a temperature of 250-300 degrees Celsius, or by lowering the pressure, when the substance has lost its properties due to pressure drops.
