Mechanical seal for the pump

The purpose of mechanical seals is to keep the liquid pumped inside the pump in the shaft passage area. Mechanical seals can be of various types of materials and designs. The installation of the seal in the pump chamber is used for cleaner liquids and for a liquid temperature not exceeding 120 ℃, and in the case of high temperatures or complex working fluids that will not allow the lubrication and cooling of friction pairs, double mechanical seals are used If necessary, a greater safety factor is required, from leakage of the pumped liquid to the outside in the case of a predictably faulty mechanical seal single, two mechanical seals can be installed that work simultaneously, thus creating a safety barrier on the pumped liquid.

There are two typical installations of double mechanical seals: opposite (also called "back to back"), API Plan 54, and serially also called "tandem", API Plan 52. In such installations, a clean liquid cools and lubricates the friction pairs.
